Truro is the only city in the county of Cornwall. It was granted city status back in 1877 by Queen Victoria. Work on the cathedral was finished in 1910, and has one of the tallest spires in England. Truro has a interesting history, stretching back nearly a thousand years. The name Truro (castle on the water) was named after a Norman castle which does not exist now. Truro later (around the early thirteen hundreds) became an important tin mining area and port. Lemon street is one of the most popular streets in Truro, because of it's attractively preserved Georgian houses. The Royal Cornwall museum situated in River street, has fascinating exhibits.
