NEWQUAY TOWN GUIDE
Newquay is is a town and fishing port in Cornwall, England. It is located on the North Atlantic coast of Cornwall, and lies about twelve miles North of Truro (capital city), and around twenty miles West of Bodmin. Newquay is an ideal family holiday destination, with many attractions and beautiful beaches that stretch along the coast. The population of Newquay is about twenty five thousand locals,, but the population can increase to about one hundred and twenty thousand during the Summer Season, because of large number of holiday accommodations. Trenance Leisure Gardens are located in a wooded valley on the border of Newquay, stretching down to the Gannel Estuary. During the Edwardian period it provided leisure facilities for holiday makers with pleasant walks,a bowling green and tennis which are still popular now. Newquay is famous for the annual event of Run to the Sun, which occurs during the public holiday on the last weekend in May. The event takes place at Trevelgue Holiday Park, where tourists travel to the town in Volkswagen Beetles, camper vans and other interesting vehicles. Fistral Beach is a world famous beach for surfing, and produces large hollow waves with a large swell. The Beach has been host to international surfing competitions for about twenty years, with the Rip Curl Boardmasters Tounament. The event is now called the Relentless Boardmasters Festival, and Fistral beach hosts the tournament, with the music festival located at Watergate Bay. Newquay is famous for it's lively nightlife, and has is a wide selection of bars and traditional pubs, nightclubs and beachside cafes. Many pubs have live music including local acts. |
