TRURO CITY GUIDE

Truro is the capital and the only city in Cornwall. It is the centre for leisure, retail and administration, for Cornwall, with a population of about eighteen thousand. Truro is also the most southerly city in the UK, and the local People from often are referred to as Truronians.

Truro was originally a majort centre of trade from its port, and then become an important Mining Industry Stannary town. Truro city is famous for it's cathedral, which was built back in nineteen ten.

Truro is lies in the centre of the South West Cornwall, and is about nine miles (14km) from the South coast. It is on the confluence of the rivers Allen and Kenwyn, which both join to become the River Truro.

Truro is surrounded by several protected natural areas, including the larger areas of ornamental landscape and historic parklands at Pencalenick. Tregothnan, Trelissick, which are further down the river truro have been designated as Areas of outstanding beauty. Calenick Creek, which lies South East of Truro, is also an area of outstanding beauty.

Places of Interest:

Truro's most popular attraction is it's cathedral, which was designed by John Loughborough Pearson. It's height is about seventy six metres, at it's highest point. The cathedral took about thirty years to complete, between eighteen eighty and nineteen ten.

The Royal Cornwall Museum is the most important and the oldest museum in the county. It has many exhibitions detailing the history of Cornwall. There is a large range collections, including Geology, Archaeology and Art. The famous 'Arthur's Incribed Stone' is a popular exhibit amongst many other interesting items.

Truro is also popular for the many parks, such as Boscawen Park and Victoria Gardens
